While it can be hard to quantify how the arts bring hope to those in crisis, Thrive! Dance Ministries highlights the power of dance as a catalyst of hope.

Through self-expression, the process of creating increases one’s self-esteem and sense of identity.

The Arts, in all their forms, seem to have a unique power to help us make sense of past experience, current circumstances and instill hope for our future.

I am stepping into my first endeavor in Haiti! On July 2nd I will be heading to Port Au Prince for three weeks to work with Spirit of Truth Ministries.

While I'm there I will be working in the churches to bring the Arts in Worship through dance. I will be training multiple teams at two churches touching 100s of children, young people and adults. This is a huge endeavor for Spirit of Truth Ministries and Thrive!

To do this we need resources! It is my goal to take 45 sets of worship garments - 15 per church. Acquiring appropriate worship attire is an expensive endeavor here in the US, and even more challenging one in Haiti, as these garments are not readily available.

A white dance dress, white palazzo pants and white tights are what we consider to be appropriate 'base layers' for worship dance. We can add color by adding overlays and sashes - which we will teach them to make.

A base set costs $60 - that's a total of over $1800 US - a significant investment that will add to the 'spirit of excellence' in their ministry of worship dance.

Spirit of Truth Ministries oversees 9 churches, 2 children's homes and 3 community schools K- 12 throughout the nation (education is provided free to those who cannot afford it). They also partner with Our Father's Business to provide secondary education in the areas of auto-mechanics, masonry, electrical and plumbing - we've even graduated an architect, business administrators, nurses and our first doctor!
